Last week, on Give Out Day, you helped raise almost $10,000 for SONG’s work! And because of how many people chose to give, whether it was $10 or $500, we were able to take home extra funds from the leaderboard challenge. We can’t thank you enough. Grassroots support for SONG means that we can dream big and act boldly in our work for full safety and freedom for LGBTQ people in the South. It means that we can build more power and capacity for our current work and expand that work further. Put simply, grassroots dollars translate directly into grassroots power.
This year, the money raised for SONG’s work will:
1. Strengthen our anti-criminalization campaign work in Durham, NC; Atlanta, GA; and Richmond, VA
2. Support our membership gatherings, such a the Bayard Rustin LGBTQ People of Color Convening
3. Help to kickstart our new collaboration with the Transgender Law Center
And speaking of the Transgender Law Center, we want to give them a big shout out and lots of gay southern love for all of their work to support SONG on Give Out Day. TLC’s staff, board, and supporters generated new support for our work and, as SONG co-founder Suzanne Pharr is so fond of saying, “went hard in the paint” on game day. Again, thank you for all you do for SONG. Every donation, on Give Out Day or otherwise, is crucial in creating the kind of South we deserve and know is possible.
We love y’all,
The Staff & Board of SONG
