The Middle Tennessee Black and Indigenous (MTBI) Fund is a community fund for Black and Indigenous queer and trans folks living and participating in the queer community of rural Middle TN. Black and Indigenous individuals living in our community who need to access funds, for whatever reasons, may do so by completing a short application and money is distributed on a first come, first served basis. The larger goals of the MTBI Fund are to foster wealth redistribution in our larger community, direct the funds to Black and Indigenous community members, and build the leadership of Black and Indigenous community members. Our advisory board and major donors have committed to supporting this project for 3 years. This team also looks forward to using this fund as an opportunity to engage our community in wealth redistribution via political education. Updates:
Members in Tennessee have given out about $12,000 in grants to community members and admin work stipends. They just finished their 3rd round of grant giving and plan on one more round. They have also used some of the money for a project called Hot Wheels, fixing up old cars folks donate in order to provide reliable transportation to community members. They held a political education Reparations workshop on September 22nd in Woodbury TN!
