Las Casitas es una instalación de arte público de diferentes altares que honra a las diferentes personas que han muerto bajo la custodia de ICE. En la tradición mexicana, las almas que no son colocadas en un altar no pueden cruzar el puente espiritual para visitar a sus seres amados y eventualmente serán olvidadas para siempre. Para conmemorar sus respectivos viajes para encontrar un nuevo hogar en los Estados Unidos, los altares consistirán de casas decoradas de 1x2x1 para conmemorar a cada individuo cuya vida llegó a su fin mientras estaba en custodia de ICE. La meta final es incrementar la conciencia en nuestra comunidad en torno a la inmigración y las injusticias en la frontera de Estados Unidos y México.
Las Casitas is a public art installation of separate altars honoring the people who have died while in ICE custody. In Mexican tradition, those souls who are not positioned on an altar are not able to cross the spirit bridge to visit their loved ones and will eventually be forgotten forever. To memorialize their respective journeys to find a new home in the United States, the altars will be 1x2x1 houses decorated to commemorate each individual whose life journey stopped short while in ICE custody. The end goal is to increase awareness in our community surrounding immigration and the injustices at the US-Mexico border.
