Granted Summer 2018

The project is a tour in which we bring our cultural work methodologies to different sites to enhance SONG campaigns. Due to our close relationship with AgitArte and our commitment to language justice, this tour is an opportunity to enact our overarching goals of encouraging creative interpretation and language justice considerations at every moment of planning and organizing. How accessible is our organizing? Who can take part across language and ability? When we apply creativity, it opens up our work to more of “nuestra gente;” the people who are looking for us but don’t know where to look, or those who don’t speak the same language.

This initial phase of the project involves in depth training with a core set of members and a tour to at least four sites across the region. The cultural work offering and approach in each location will depend on the member configuration of each site: cluster, crew or chapter. If it’s a cluster then we would employ a cultural strategy to base build, if it’s a crew we may utilize theater exercises to build trust or strengthen their messaging, if it’s a chapter we may do guerrilla theater and plan a direct action to apply pressure on  a target of a campaign. The goal of each tour stop is to enhance the work where it’s at, and share our collective expertise in cultural organizing and using arts and culture to move towards justice.
