SONG Cunty Country Fair Regional Membership Call

September 27, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Hot Queer Summer is coming to an end and as mornings get chillier and pumpkins scents fill the air, we invite you to join us on Monday, September 27th, 6-8pm ET/5-7pm CT for our  SONG Regional Membership Call: Cunty Country Fair. Cum one, cum all!

The SONG Cuntry fair is in town for all SONG members, longtime and new. This call will be a time to connect with SONG’s rowdy, queer Southern members and our Forever SONG fam. As a region we will take time to skill up together, and dig into our political histories to shape our future. We’ll be mapping our political landscape with the lens of where we are in the South. During the call we will have various “carnival rides”(breakout groups) where we will dig into some different topics such as: our campaign assessment, conflict transformation, and base building. Hope to see you at the Cunty Country fair!

Join SONG Power on November 9th from 6-8pm CT/7- 9pm ET for our SONG & SONG Power November Regional Member Call to reflect on the electoral process, reground in our political commitment, and share with one another what opportunities there are to be harvested in this moment. On this call we will create and enter third-space, rooted in creation, invention, innovation, and re-birth together. Members will give updates on this year’s election cycle and  our abolitionist movement building work. This call is for us to name and celebrate our wins and grieve our losses.

We are calling ALL members, new and seasoned, because we do not fight alone! This call is for each of us who need space to reflect on what this political and spiritual moment is bringing to bear. We hope to strategize, connect, and be together because we know that where there’s great challenge, there is equally great opportunity and together we hold the dreams and visions to manifest liberation in our lifetime. We do this while recognizing that we take care of each other.

We are living through and calling for transformation as protests against the system of policing have kindled fires of rage and solidarity globally. Our abolitionist vision is being embraced and grows with each person fed up, activated, fired up, and ready to fight for queer liberation.

In order to win our fights, we must work, move and build in formation! We must lean into our collective power and learn from the wisdom of our movement leaders and ancestors.  The mandate calls us to work strategically to strengthen our power and birth the world we’re dreaming. To see our people free of shackles and cages with an abundance of Black joy and queer and trans liberation is the charge!

Join us every other Sunday for our bi-monthly Squad Up, Skill Up, Slay: Street Fighter Series to learn community organizing and direct action planning fundamentals. The series is for brand new organizers and folks wanting to refresh their skills alike. To gain insight on how to squad up through base-building, direct action planning and more join us as we skill-up and prepare to slay in our respective communities!  Each module is intended to strengthen our disability justice and language justice politic and practice. We’ll have interpretation between Spanish, English and ASL.

Thousands of our community members — family, friends, and comrades — have been ripped from our communities and placed in jails across the South. Our people are forced into poor conditions and denied access to their freedom before trail while being held on cash bail. Despite many being eligible to vote, too many have no access to casting a ballot by mail. Because of the legacy of racialized exclusion and its role as a tool of domination over captured Black bodies, our people are being denied power over one’s own life, denied an opportunity to inform the conditions that condemned them to the inside of a cage, and denied an opportunity to connect with the community.

Southerners on New Ground, Free Hearts, and the Albany Voter’s Coalition invite you to hear more about our localized strategies to expand access to the ballot to people incarcerated in Southern jails through through on-the-ground organizing for access to voter registration, absentee ballot voting, and in-person polling sites within jails.

Grab a glass of sweet tea, and find a spot on your porch this Sunday, 10/11 at 4pm EST for reports from the field, a scan of the conditions, and a call to action to mobilize for an end to de facto disenfranchisement in service to our vision for decarceration and decriminalization of our home towns.

RSVP today for our first Virginia based Race Traitor call, happening this Sunday, October 4th, 4:30-6 PM on Zoom.  Virginia Race Traitors is a series of calls focused on SONGs white membership in Virginia and open to all members across race. We will focus on white SONG members’ role in antiracist and abolitionist freedom struggles.

We hope to offer a space for vulnerability, connection, and political education while building the skills and capacity necessary for white members to identify and combat whiteness as an institutional, cultural, and personal matter. This process builds strength in the critical critique of ourselves and our collective world.

Over the last few months of our Squad Up, Skill Up, Slay: Street Fighter Series, we have learned basic organizing skills! We deepened our understanding of Southern, queer, direct action organizing and base-building work.

For our last skill-up, we will lean into language justice and disability justice. We believe abolition cannot happen without these values being at the heart of our movement work. The world we dream of cannot exist without disability justice and multilingual multimodal magic. Our movements must be worthy of all our people!

This will be a collaborative conversation between SONG and HEARD. HEARD is a cross-disability prison abolitionist community organization and the only organization in the nation that supports deaf/disabled people at every stage of the criminal legal system. Join us November 8th, from 1-3 pm ET/ 12-2 pm CT as we dive deeper into abolition, disability justice, and language justice.
