Si puedes\, únete a nosotrxs para celebrar y recordar a Murph y todo lo que fue para nosotrxs. \nREGISTRATE \n————- \nIt is with broken hearts we share\, that on March 22\, 2020\, we lost beloved SONG Birmingham member leader and organizing fellow\, Alexis “Murph” Murphy. Since 2012\, Murph has been a dedicated member leader who was passionate about transforming Alabama and the South. We knew Murph as a quiet\, funny\, kind\, movie lover\, and an incredibly brilliant organizer who had the walls of their home\, filled with flipchart paper with strategies on how to get our people free. They were always giggling about something someone said under their breath because they were observant– always looking\, listening and learning. Murph was also a farmer and enjoyed spending time in the dirt\, with seeds in their hands and their comrades by their side planting flowers and food for their community. Continuously\, Murph saw a need and filled it. They understood that organizing was also staying late\, cleaning up after\, and doing the necessary tasks that typically go unseen or unacknowledged. \nMurph\, you are and will forever be the prime example of what it means to show up for our people. In this moment\, we have to feel our feelings and love on our kindred. We ask that folks hold Murph’s family\, friends\, and comrades in their hearts and minds as we remember Murph and honor their transition as a beloved ancestor. DESCRIPTION:Join the monthly Small Town & Rural Working Group calls! \nThe Small Town & Rural Working Group comes from a long legacy in SONG to fight isolation and build power with our queer and trans folks across the South. We understand that the South is primarily rural and many of our folks are systematically ignored from the primary narrative of what liberation and freedom for LGBTQ can look like. Rural queers face many of the same predicaments and challenges of our urban counterparts\, but they are often magnified by this social economy of small places.
