Hace casi dos años, el Centro de Derechos Transgéneros (TLC por sus siglas en inglés) y Sureños en Nueva Tierra (SONG por sus siglas en inglés) realizaron una gira de escucha en el sur para aprender y construir con activistas trans y género no normativo. Visitamos algunos de tus pueblos, comimos juntos, y aprendimos tanto de ti. Sin embargo, el suelo bajo nuestros pies está cambiando constantemente. El 2017 ha sido el año más mortífero a la fecha para mujeres negras y latinas trans. ¿Cómo estamos manteniéndonos segurxs en la era de Trump? Ya sea en las calles o en los juzgados, el suelo bajo nosotrxs se está moviendo constantemente. Debemos saber cómo movernos nosotrxs también. ¿Qué está ocurriendo en tus comunidades?
El GrapeVine es una encuesta comunitaria de las personas trans y género no normativas a lo largo del sur. Crecer como una persona de género no normativx en el sur significa encontrar maneras para conectar a pesar del aislamiento. Siempre hemos encontrado maneras de rebelarnos, conspirar, y soñar en conjunto. El Centro de Derechos Trasngéneros y Sureños en Nueva Tierra usamos el compartir historias como algo crucial para las estrategias legales y organizativas que trasnforman la cultura y ganan protecciones.

Almost 2 years ago, the Transgender Law Center (TLC) and Southerners On New Ground (SONG) set out on a listening tour of the South to learn and build with trans & gender non-conforming activists. We visited some of your towns, we ate together, and we learned so much from you. However, the ground beneath us is constantly shifting. 2017 has been the deadliest year on record for Black and Latina trans women. How are we keeping each other safe in the era of Trump? Whether in the streets or in the courts, the ground beneath us is constantly shifting. We must be ready to shift too. What is happening in your communities?
The GrapeVine is a community survey of trans & gender non-conforming communities across the South. Growing up gender non-conforming in the South means finding ways to connect despite isolation. We have always found ways to rebel, scheme, and dream together. The Transgender Law Center and Southerners on New Ground center storytelling as crucial to legal and organizing strategies that shift culture and win protections.
